SAVINaSI BANK DEPOSITS.
THE GROWTH IN DUNEDIN.
A number of interesting figures illustrative of the growth of the volume of work of the Postal Department in the Dunedin district were supplied to an Otago Daily Times reporter on Saturday by the Hon. ft. H. Rhodes, Postmaster-general:— In 1903, the number of letters and postcards posted at Dunedin was 6,362,110; and in 1913,- 8,458,270. Other articles posted amounted to 4,881,380 and 4,929,410 respectively. In 1903, 5,389,300 letters and postcards were delivered; and in 1913, 7,626,370 The numbers of other articles delivered were 3,346,280 and 4,792,360 respectively. In 1903, 16,184 money orders were issued of the value of £58,374; and in 1913, 19,904 of £111,209. In 1903, 32,985 money orders were paid, of the value of £139,062; and in 1913, 45,014, of the value of £246,166. In 1903, 39,214 savings bank deposits were made, amounting to £566,233; and, in 1913, 59,032, amounting to £857,521. In 1903, 35,113 savings bank withdrawals were made, amounting to £613,449; and in 1913, 60,267, amounting to £1,064,642. Telegrams forwarded from Dunedin in 1903 numbered 297,979, of the value of £13,096; and in 1913, 415,763, of the value of £15,209. In 1903, 258,785 telegrams were received for ■. delivery to the inhabitants; and in 1913, 543,603. Telegrams received for onward transmission numbered, in 1903, 600,230; and in 1913, 1,023,294. In 1903. 8,981,260 letters and post-cards were posted in the Dunedin postal district; and in 1913, 12,419,160. The numbers of other articles posted were 5,736,150 and 6,104,270 respectively. Letters and postcards delivered numbered,.in 1903, 8,429,540, and in 1913, .12,127,640. Other articles delivered numbered 4,756,420 and 6,495,910 respectively. In 1903, 35,268 money orders were issued, of the value of £153,788; and in 1913, 60,884, of the value of £252,348. 'In 1903, 44,181 money orders were paid, of the value of £182,923; and in 1913J 62,858, of the value of £317,155. In 1903, 64,372 savings bank deposits were made, amounting to £767,058; and in 1913, 102.134, amounting to £1,268,927. In 1903, 41,990 savings bank withdrawals were made, amounting to £730,371; and in 1913j 69,585, amounting to £1,277,537. In 1903, 524,044 telegrams were forwarded from offices in the Dunedin district, of the value of £20,257; and in 1913, 841,352, of the value of £27,599. Telegrams received numbered, in 1903, 578,147; and in 1913, 918,785. In 1903, 772,948 telegrams were received at offices in the Dunedin _ district for onward transmission; and in 1913, 1,253,870.
