All the ballots taken by the Miners' Federation give overwhelming majorities in favour of a national strike. ATTITUDE OF GERMAN MINERS. BERLIN, January 11. It has boen denied in Westphalia that German miners are arranging for a sympathetic strike should the British miners go out. COTTON TRADE DISPUTE. STRUCK LEVIKS. LONDON, January 11. The General Federation of Trade. Unions has doubled its levies on alliliated unions in order to support the cotton operatives. Its accumulated funds total £66.730. compared with £162,000 in 1900. The payment of half a crown to each weaver is absorbing £17,500 weekly. EMPLOYERS' MANIFESTO. APPEAL FOiTIOYALTY. LONDON, January 12. (Received Jan. 12, at 11.5 p.m.) Hie Cotton Manufacturers' Association has issued a manifesto in which it denies that it do.\s not desire a settlement, but it only asks, as a non-combatant in the quarrel between tho unionists and nonunionists, that the financial interests of the employers should remain unaffected. STRIKE IN ADELAIDE. SYDNEY, January 12. (Received Jan. 13, at 0.55 a.m.) Two more of the Adelaide Company's steamers have ten thrown idle as a protest by the wharf labourers against tho working of constant hands. AUCKLAND WATERSIDE WORKERS. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 12. The following is the decision of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union:— That in futnro work shall not commence at midnight on Sunday to work the Sydney steamer's cargo, but that the hour of starting lie 8 o'clock on Monday morning. It is understood that tho waterside workers are in future to cease work at noon on Saturday, instead of at 4 p.m. After mid-day overtime is to lie asked for at the rate of 2s 6d an hour, which is a rise of sixpence an hour on tho rates paid for overtime tinder present conditions, after 4 p.m. WATERSIDE WORKERS AND SHIPOWNERS. (Pep. United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 12. The conference between tho waterside workers' delegates and representatives.of the shipowners of tho Dominion was continued to-day. Matters aro proceeding slowly, and likely to last for some time. Roth' parties are sworn to tho strictest secrecy on all matters concerning details of the agreement anil the progress being made.
