MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE DIS. MISSED. (Pin United Pui-ss Association, 1 CIIRISTCHURCH, January 12. A charge of manslaughter arising out of the death of George Tihaw at ijcithfield on December 29 was investigated at Amberley yesterday, James Russell being the accused. Tho evidence showed that there was some skylarking in the bar of the Royai Hotel at Loithlield, in the course of which Ribscll put Shaw down on a bench. Shaw struck Russell, who again caught Shaw iiy the neck and put him on the bench. Subsequently a lump rose on Shaw's neck and continued to swell, and ho died as a rfeMiit of laceration of a vein in the neck. Ilii-sell had been some hours'in the bar and had had several whiskies when the trouhle occurred, but all tho witnesses were emphatic in stating that thero was nothing malicious in Russell's horse-play. The caso was dismissed.
