Mr W. Widdowson, assistant engineer in Dunedin to tho Public Works Department, has been promoted to tho position of resident engineer at Nelson. Constable Edwards, now stationed at Dunedin, is to be transferred to Kurow, where he replaces Constable Cassidy, who goes to Rakaia. Miss M. Farquharson, 8.A., at present at Allanton, has received notice of appointment as assistant in the secondary department in the Waimatc High School. Mr Claude Haigh arrived in Dunedin last night to make arrangements for the season in this city of tho Scarlet Troubadours. Mr F. A. Cheyrrc who, for the past 14 years has been a torn traveller .for Messrs R. Wilson and Co., was, on the occasion of his joining the staff of Kcill and CO., presented by his old firm with a cheque, whilst the, employees of the lirm made him the recipient of a silver afternoon tea service and a case of pipes. Mr J. W. Matthowson, of the traffic department of the Union Steam Ship Company, who is being transferred to tho Strahan, (Tasmania) branch of tho company's business, was presented yesterday afternoon with a' travelling suit case, rug, and, gold sleeve-links on tho occasion of his' departure from Dunedin. Tho presentation was made by Mr D. A. Aiken, assistant general manager, ar)d Mr Matthewson suitably replied. Mr Matthewson has been promoted" to the position of chief clerk and accountant of the Strahan branch.
