Br Finch, District Health Officer at Christchurch, left Dunedin for the south yesterday afternoon on official business. Mr T. 6. Young left Dunedin yesterday by tho Ulimaroa for tho north, en routo for Great Britain, where he proposes to make an extended stay.

Dr Valintine, Inspector-general of Hospitals, leaves Dunedin this morning for Queanstowji and surrounding districts on a visit of inspection of the various up-country hospitals. The Sanatorium Committee of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board has recommended that Mr S. S. Myers be appointed member of the committee to fill tho vacancy caused by tho resignation of Mr C. E. Keast. At Inst evening's meeting of tho City Council Mr R. A. Johnston was appointed acting town clerk until tho arrival of Mr G. A. Lcwin, which will take place about the beginning of next month. Tho death is announced at Inveroargill of Mr Robert Patterson, tho well-known ploughman. He won the ohampion match some 15 years ago, and was first and champion at the Edendalo match last season. K. Logan, who is retiring from the position of Superintendent of Electric ■ Lines after 46 years in the service, received a presentation of a purse of sovereigns yesterday from tho Post and Telegraph staffs throughout Now Zealand. Sir Joseph Wad, Prime Minister and Pcstmaster-gencrah made tlic presentation, speaking in eulogistic terms of Mr Logan's lons and faithful service. Sir Joseph's remarks were seconded by tihe Hon. Dr Findlay and Mr D. Robortson, Secrcta.ry to tho Department. Mr J. L. Salmond, architect, purposes leaving Dunedin for tho Home Country in about two weeks' time. It is his intention to spend about seven weeks on the Continent, and then reach London in time for the Coronation, returning to New Zealand via America.

Miss E. N. Harlow contemplates leaving on Wednesday next on a nine months' trip to Great Britain and tho Continent. _ Miss Harlow purposes visiting Paris, Vienna, Berlin, and other fashion ccnties, as well as the leading cities of Great Britain, on business bent. Mt T. R. Carroll, who is leaving Rivorton for Mandevillc, where he is well and favourably known, was the recipient of an illuminated address and a purse of

sovereigns from his Riverton friends on Friday night. The. presentation took place in the Town Had, Riverton, and upwards of 40 gentlemen were present. His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. R. Mills) was to have presided, and, i,iv his unavoidable absonco and at his request, Mr J. C. Thomson, M.P., occupied the chai'r.
