HAWERA, February 8. The Egmont summer meeting was opened to-day in beautiful weather, and the attendance numbered nearly 4009 people. The absence of the bookmakers was responsible for an increase in the totalisator investments, which were £10,881, as against £5E66 for the oorcspouding day last February. OTAGO ROWING CLUB. During the past week the Otago Rowing Olub 3w3 rowed off the hearts and final of the Ladies' Challenge Cup Pours, and the 'various crews are to he congratulated on the form shown. Results:—

First heat.—Duthic (stroke), Smeatoni, Molloy, Park beat Justin (stroke), Black, H. E. Sibbald, and Pels. A particularly close race, won by a few foot in tho lawt 50 yards.

Second heat.— Fairbairn (stroke), Ward, Drunimond, Caflin beat Langston (stroke), Si'obakl, W. Stewart, and Pace;,-. A close raco. Won by a length. Third heat.—Byrne (stroke), Paton, Ellison, and Davis beat Stevens (stroke), M'Donough, De.njiiston, and Ombler. A good race to half-way, whero Paton's combination started to toll, enabling him to win by a couple of lengths.

Final.—Byr-no (stroke), Paton, Ellison, and Davis, 1; Duthio (stroke), Smeaton, Molloy, and Park, 2; Fairbairn (stroke), Ward, Drummoral, and Caffin, 3. All the crews got away to .a good start, aaid at tho Tkee-legs Paton had secured half a length's lead. At tho Black Buoy Paton increased his load to a length, which lie held to the finish, Duthie beating Fairbairn for second place by feet.

The following crews have been selected to represent the club in the Maiden Fours at Ravensbourne Regatta on tho 25th inst,, and are requested to start training immediately :■—Duthio (stroke), Baker, Sibbald, L. S. Smcaion; Molloy (stroke), Wnird, Ellison, Justin; Byrne (stroke), Sibbald, Langston, CafTm. Tho crews are subject to alteration.
