BRISBANE, February 8,

The inquiry into the stranding of the Eastern lias commenced. Pilot Maxwell stated that the fault was his in attempting to pilot the vessel when ho was unable to see the buoys. Ho admitted that tho captain had advised waiting until the rain squall had cleared, and he should have done so. He denied the second mate's evidence, contending that he had reported passing the red buoy. The inquiry was adjourned.
