PICNICS

Tho annual picnic of the Provident Life Assurance Company took place on Saturday last at WaitatiC-lon. Tho party, consisting of the outside staff, families, and friends, numbered about 50. Favoured with a fine, day, a most, enjoyable lime was spent, oacli doing his best to promote tho happiness of the whole company. Tho procoediegs bad been carefully planned, ami passed off without a hitch. Fruit and lollies were distributed in abundance, and every lady and child received a handsome present. The usual games and races were indulged in during the afternoon.

DRAPERS AND RETAIL BOOT ASSISTANTS' PICNIC.

When tlio train started from Dunedin for the drapers' fifteenth animal picnic yesterday the -vreather wns> none too favourable, a drizzle having set in, but when Wait'ati was reached it could not have been a better day. About 450 availed themselves of the (Jay's outing, and a- really enjoyable- time was spent. .The children wore well catered for with toys, lollies, and races, the notable feature being tho Bun and Treacle Race, which caused a lot of amusement. There were a good number of employers present, including Mr H. M'Kcchnie, -Mr A. Bnrnett, Mr R, 11. Scott, and Mr W. Penrose, jun. The sports programme, which was a rather lengthy one, was carried out very efficiently by the sports officials, atid altogether a very enjoyable time was spent, the committee- working well together _to mate everybody welcome. At Wairongoa yesterday tho grocers of Dunedin hold their 27th annual picnic, and, (hanks to fine weather and complete arrangements, it was attended with a very largo amount of success. The attendance was made up of about 800 people, among whom were quite a number of visitors from along the line. There was also present a good number of tho employers, who evinced as much interest in the proceedings as the employees. The splendid programme put on by the officials stamped them as men indispensable to those who undertake to jnanago a picnic." Chief amongst those who deserve credit wore the sccrctajrv, Mr G. 11. Smith, and W. Renwiek, handicapper and starter, also Mr D. Roberts and the hard working committee. The judges deserve a word of praise for the abb way in which they carried out their duties, for every satisfaction was given by their decisions. MORAY PLACE SCHOOL. Yesterday the children attending tin .Moray Place School, accompanied by thei parents, teachers, and a number of tin committeemen, proceeded to Portobelh bv tho ferry, boat Waikana, where the; hold their annual picnic. On arrival a the grounds at 11.30 a.m. a plentiful suppb of hot water, tea, and milk was in readi ncss, and when the baskets had been un packed all sat down and anpeased the ap petitcs which had been created by tho fresl sea breeze during tho run down. Luncl over, sports of all kinds, including running jumping, and skipping were indulged in b; old and young for upwards of two hours and a, large number of useful prizes wer distributed by the committee. The -pic nickers left Portobollo at 4 p.m., and afte a very pleasant sail reached town at 5.1 p.m. The weather was warm and dry dur ing the day, and one and all agreed thn the outing was woll arranged and expresses themselves as having thoroughly cnjoyci the picnic.
