DUNEDIN CITY MISSION.
Tho monthly meeting of committee was held in tho Bible Depot on Tuesday, when thero were present Messrs George Reid (in tho chair), John A. D. Adams (two of tho original committee present when tho City Mission was founded 16 years ago in old Knox Church), E. Aslin, P. L. Clark, W. K. Sessions, J. 11. Wilkinson, John Barnes, E. llcsovear (hon. treasurer), and D. Wright.
An excellent report ancnt finance was laid on tho table, and the following donations \voro reported:— Member of Committee. 10j ; Friend, £5 ss; Albany street service, £1 3s Sd; I/idy Helper, 10s. Poor Fund: Two Ladies, 9s. On the motion of Mr Adams, it was agreed to record a vote of condolence in connection with the death of tho wife of tho esteemed president, Mr G. M. Thomson.
The mistress of one of the largo State schools addressed a letter of thanks to the. missionary for repeatedly providing the children of needy parents" with boots, etc. A lady sympathiser had also written a letter of approval of the classes for Bibia reading in tho schools, and expressed a desire to 'become an annual subscriber of £5 5s to tho funds of the mission..
In view of the annual meeting to'be held in March, a small committee, consisting of tho president,' the lion, treasurer, and the missionary, was set up to draw up tho report and balance sheet, and arrange all details. Mr D. Leslie was appointed to audit the cash statement.
In his monthly memo, the missionary reported that both before (ind since the holidays ho had smii and conversed with persons ail over the city and suburbsold folk. tick people, dying ones, and men and women in deep grief through sin, bereavement, and selfishness. Through the thoughtful kindness of friends ho had carried at the Christmas season bodily comforts to not a few homes. He had assisted to carry out the arrangements for nearly 203 children and parents to spend a happy day in the country, and those associated with him had met with a ready response of the needful funds, etc. Tho Felichet Bay Band of Hope, now under the wing of the City Mission, would resume active work shortly.
All arrangements for resuming the classes for Bible reading in schools were complete, and the dates are:—Monday, 20th February, North-Fast Valley (by request); Tuesday, 21st. Kaikorai; Wednesday, 22nd. Albany Street; Thursday. 23rd, Maori Hill; Friday, 24th, Arthur Street'. In view of large classes, not fewer than 1400 attendance cards have been printed. Once more the members of committee were well pleased to hear that Mr Wright had already received (quite unsolicited) substantial offers of financial assistance in all branches of work for 1911.
