A tontereiiM) was lit'lil to-day oehveen representatives of tin: Wellington Pastrycooks' Union and the employers respecting Hie demands tiled by the union for a new award. .Mr T\ Rally (Conciliation Cmiiniissionei') presided. The assessors for the employers were Messrs W. Dustin, .1. K. (iodlier, and ]•). Carroll, ajid for llio employees .Messrs A. CoJlins, L. \V. lioodchild, ami T. Dillon. .An agreement has ken arrived at, which ivill afterwards lie referred to the Arbitration Court with a recommendation that. it remain ill force until December 31, 1911. The. working hours per week have been fixed at- 48. The minimum' wages arc: l''orein;in or lirsl hand, 60s per week; second hand. SOs; third hand, 455. The usual conditions applicable io apprentices have been adopted, also conditions in respect of hoaiil' ami lodging and underrate workmen. Female labour "is recognised only so far as finishing cases are concerned, lint on no account will females be permitted ill bakehouses, of .11. hot plate work. Preference of employment, is given to unionists. Overtime is to he paid for work done in excess of 48 hours per week, or 10 hours per day. The agreement applies only to persons who carry on the business of pastrycooks pure ajid simple, and to persons who employ a man as a. pastrycook only. Those persons who combine tlio business of pastry cooking ami baking come under the provisions of the bakers' award.
