BURNS-JOHNSON PICTURES. A fair audience, with a small sprinkling of the feminine I sex, attended at His Majesty's Theatre last evening to witness tho pictorial representation of the now historic contest lietween Burns and Johnson. The programme was the same in its entirety as that presented on the previous evening, and was en joyed by those who had come to enjoy it. The 'film is stated to lie one of the best produced of any large event, and its depiction is carried out in a. thoroughly satisfactory manner. A repetition of last night's programme will be submitted this evening. PRINCESS THEATRE. The final exhibition of the current programme of Wide-World Pictures was given to a largo audience in the Princess Theatre last night. The usual weekly change of programme, which appears to he a particularly attractive one, will l>e presented tonight. Among the scenery pictures are included films illustrating li'fe in the Arabian Desert. China, at. the "present day. life on the Zambesi River, and various'industries in South Africa. The bulk of the programme is made up of various humorous and dramatic studies of the type which has won such a popularity for the entertainment. MILITARY CARNIVAL. A very large crowd of visitor packed the Garrison Hall upstairs and downstairs last night at tho grand military carnival and art union which has lieen organised to provide uniforms for tho First Railway Pioneer Corp.-. Good business was done at the various stalls, and Ikoi'ii interest was shown in the clever and varied exhibitions of dancing given during the evening. Conspicuous among many popular items were n solo dance by Mies May Black, who bus had charge of the training of the children, and a. Dutch specialty by ladies of the Duncdiu Operatic Society. A " wireless" telegraphy instalment in charge of the Duncdiu Engineers, connecting opposite corners of the hull, excited a greet deal of interest. It is intended to bring the carnival to a close to-night, and it is stated that the goods will he disposed of at purchasers' own prices.

I KAIKORAI BAND. A large number of people look advantage of the beauty of the weather last night and found their way to the Carisbrook Ground, where tho Kaikorai Band gave one of iis popular open-air entertainments. The musical programme by the band itself included the march "Field Day" (Rimmer), an American sketch " In Old Kentucky," a dance " Gay and frisky " (Hume), " Victoria Regina," and Koenig's " Post, Horn Galop," a post horn obbligato being contributed to the later by Mr G. B. Laidlaw. Comic sougs in costume by Mr R. Owen and a solo by Mr Vivian were greatly appreciated. 'The bulk of the programme consisted of a number of excellent cinematograph picture?, scenic, dramatic, and comic subjects lieing all well represented. 'The band contemplates giving another entertainment on Friday night, due notice of which will be given, HARBOUR EXCURSION. The ferry steamer Matariki ma-da another enjoyable harbour excursion last evening. The attendance was not quite so large as on previous occasions, but the trip was none the less pleasant. The night was a beautiful oip, and the Citizens' Band on board contributed to the general enjoyment in its usual style. ADA CROSSLEY CONCERTS.

Madame Ada Crosslcy, with her splendid company of artists, intends paying a return and farewell visit to Dunedin on Thursday and Friday, 4th ami sth of next month, giving two concerts at the Garrison Hall, when the prices will be reduced to ss, 3s, and 2>, thus giving everyone a cha-nco of hearing the celebrated contralto. Entirely fresh programmes will be announced, and the public will have the advantage of hearing Madame and her magnificent company in a fresh repertoire of songs. Madame Crcssley and party have just concluded a week's'wcll-deserreil rest at Rotorua, where they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Concerts in Wellington and Christchureh have liecn given on (heir way down, with the most gratifying results. The box plan for the ss' rcs-crved seats will be open at the Dresden on Saturday next.

THE LAUGHING GALLERY. One of tho greatest draws at Christchurch Exhibition was the Laughing Gallery, and the management of tho Penny Parlours announces the fact that it ha.s opened one at. its premises, firown-FAving's Corner, and such is tho drawing power of this attraction that it will probably continue to receive liberal patronage.
