THE ULIMAROA.
SERIOUSLY DAMAGED.

CHBTSTCHURCir, Februarv 24. The HuddarUParker Company's steamer Ulimaroa, which grounded in bta-go Harbour last Saturday morning, mid which was badJy damaged, was docked at Lyltelton yesterday evening. A survey of the vessel's bottom was made this morning, and it is understood that tenders will be called at once awl a contract let for the Work of repairs. An inspection of the vessel in doe!; shows that she has sustained verv serious (lanugo through contact with the rocks. The first dent shows under the bottom of the vessel on the port, side, about 60ft from the bow. The plates are badly dented and the mots are started. Gobi's; aft, numerous bad donti. can be seen, a.nd then for about 120,'t or more (.lie plates and frames are very seriously buckled and ''«! Up." The damage f,-e'ms to be confined 11 the two roivs of plates extending from the keei outwards for about, Bft. ajul fore and aft lor well owr 100 ft amidships Tho plates at the alter ml of the da,,,! aged section are badly cracked, and water was streaming through in numerous places. A number of the cracks were *o bad that they had to he plugged at Fort Chalmers by a diver with canvas and wood wedges. It is understood thai the contraet for repairs will involve the removal of 18 plates, each abo.it 22ft in length.
