Friday, February 5. (Before Mr 11. Y. Wkldoivson, 5..M.) Insufficient Moans of Support. -The adjourned charge against James St-roujj was resumed. — Sergeant. Mtilhuiy stated that defendant lived with hi.s wife and child, in a three-roomed house, which was the rwort of reputed thieves and women of ba<l character, tic practically dene no v.-ork f<ir years, but about six months ago lie did a couple of weeks' work when threatened with police proceedings. .Sometimes lie helped tin- fishermen to land tlieir lish at the stage, unci sold Ihe lish to prfu.-iiiv drink, lie also proliled by procuring liquor for prohibited persons. The police admitted that his health was indifferent at present, and under those eircumsuince;; would agree to an adjournment if he promised to amend and go to legitimate work. Questioned by llio magistrate, defendant said lie was not lit for work and had been ill for months, but had done a lot of odd jobs tor various people. The Magistrate remarked that there were always people trendy lo help those who deserved it. Defendant would have to put an end to his present method of living. and lo give him a chance lo do so Ihe e.sae would be adjourned fur a mouth, when he would again he brought before ihe court if the police leport was unfavourable.
