DRAINAGE BOARD

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Dunedin Drainage Board, held last night, wxis attended by Messrs W. Burnett (chairman), J. Gore, J. H. Hancock, J. Small, and J. J. Mariow. Apologies for nonattcndairco wore recived irom Messrs Arkle, LcCren, and Dr Fulton. A resolution of sympathy was passed with Mr Arklo in his recent bereavement. COKRBSra.NDEXCE. Tho Town Olerk, Maori Hill Borough Council, wrote requesting information as to tho present position of plans for drainago rotioulation within tho Maori Hill borough, ami as to what arrangements the board contemplated making for carrying out tho reticulation.—Referred to Works Committee. The Secretary of the Otago Rugby Football Union wroto stating that his committee did not 6ec its way to accepting the kind offer of tho board re drainage of tho Carisbrook Ground, as the cost entailed was rather too high. Ho had been instructed to convoy bis committee's best thanks for tho troublo the hoard had taken. —Reoeived. J. A. Fothergill wrpto reminding tho board that it had promised to take steps towards removing the nuisance caused by the uncovered ditch at St. Kilda. After a lapse of sis months nothing had been done. —Mr Mariow said he felt confident that St. Kilda had not been exceptionally treated. He would not go as far as to say it had been unfairly treated. The case in point was certainly a crying evil. A section of the ditch had been covered at a cost of £109 12s 6d, and if tho whole ditch was covered it would bo some more money well spent, and would mean the removal of the last, and the worst, of these evils. This complaint would be continually being brought before tho bsard until something was done.—Mr Gore said that tho last time he was there ho, saw eight or 10 people with handkerchiefs to. their noses. Then there was the school to bo considered. The children had to paes this place.—Mr Hancock said ho thought the Works Committee should iigiii-ii visit the place.—Mr Gore: The last time it was there tho ditch was full of salt water.—Mr Hancock moved, and Mr Mariow seconded, that tlio matter be referred to tho Works Committee, with power to act. The Town Clerk of St. Kilda wrote asking when the board would be able to receivo a deputation, from the St. Kilda Council concerning the Albert street ditch. —To be informed that the board would bo glad to rcccivo the deputation at tbe next meeting of the board. A request concerning reticulation in Upper Albany street was referred to tho Works Committee, with power to act. itErou'fs. The Works Committee reported the authorisation of tho reticulation of Vogcl street, between Rattray and Water streets, , at an estimated cost of £129; of Melville street, between High and Walker streets, at £190; of the reinstatement of Anderson's Hay road box drain for storm water; of North-East Valley branch sewer; first section from tho main intercepting sewer via Clyde, Albany, Leith, and Brook streets, and Gardens to the Main road. Roslyn: Contract 192, reticulation of portion of Roslyn. Tho tender of Mr M'Neill hud been accepted; also tho tendeis of Mr B. M'Kowcn for contracts 197 and 198 (cart- ■ age). Accounts amounting to £1146 Is 3d had been passed for payment.—Adopted. Tho Finance Oommittoo reported that i accounts amounting to £1146 Is, 3d were examined and'passed for payment, and that : since tho last, meeting of tho committee , the sum of £13 6s 3d had' been paid into , the credit of the aggregate fund; that pass ! books showed tho agg.rogato fund to bo in credit £3732 Is sd, and tho trust account in I credit £378 15s 4d.
