Mr Justice Williams returns to Dunedin by the second express to-morrow evening from the Court of Appeal sittings .at Wellington. Mr Justice Dcnniston was a passenger southward from Wellington last night by the Maori. Mr. W. E. Oakdcn, manager of the Milburn Lime and Cement Company, left yesterday on a visit to the United.States of America. He expects to bo absent about four months. News has been received of tho death at Hastings o£ Mr Michael Joseph Kilroy, a membor of the well-known Milton family. He was the oldest, son of Mrs Thomas Kilroy, of Milton, and was married about 12 years ago tcMiss Janet Moore, daughter of Mr William Moore, of Kiness Farm, Milton. Tho Milton papers record tho sudden death of Mrs Grey, of Dunedin, who was visiting Mrs Philip Paskell, at Ulenore. ■ Mrs tjrey was at one time a well-known resident of Milton, having _resided. thero for nearly 20 years subsequent to the early seventies, and was related by marriage to the well-known Milburn family of tho eame name. At a meeting yesterday morning Mr T. M. Chambers was appointed to fill thc_ position until a permanent chairman has been appointed. Dr J. M. Mason,' Chief Health Officer for New Zealand, will bo president of the public health section at the Australasian Medical Congress to be held at Melbourne on October 19. Mr J. If. Uilkison has recovered from his recent accident sufficiently to get about again, and with Mrs Gilkisoii left Inveroargill on Wednesday for Rotorua, where he intends spending a month. Sir Willi™ Steward, in a political address at Fairlie, mentioned that he had boon 37 years in public life. For three years he had been a Mayor, and a member of the Legislature for 32 years. He had attended 37 sessions, and had not been absent from his seat for more than 24- hours at a time. At tho Oamaru Woollen Factory on Saturday morning, Mr J. M. Wilson, of tho office staff, who has accepted a position with Messrs J. Craig and Co., was (says the North Otago Times) presented with a handsomo dressing-case. The manager (Mr D. M. Palcrson), who made the presentation on behalf of the employees, made special reference to the conscientious manner in which Mr Wilson had always performed his duties. Mr Wilson made a, suitable response to Mr Paterson's remarks, thanking the speaker and the donors for their generous gift. Mr Geo. Bast in, orisr at the Supreme Court, Wellington, has (says our. correspondent) been 'presented by the members of the Wellington Bar with u silver tea-sc-t. The president .and secretary of the Law Society sent the following letter with the gift: "_The legal practitioners of Wellington desire you to accept this gift as a slight token of their appreciation of the courtrons, efficient, and dignified manner in which you have performed the duties attaching to your office for the last' 22 years. Whilst they regret your resignation from the office yen have so worthily filled, they recognise that your retirement, is well earned, and they join in hoping that you may be spared to enjoy many years of leisure." A correspondent supplies some additional particulars with reference to Mr Piobert Bunion, who died at Alexandra on Tuesday last. The deceased was born at Barsolus,- Stranraer, Wiglonshire, Scotland, and at the time of his death was 69 years of age. His earlier life was devoted lo agricultural and pastoral pursuits, and in 1861 ho arrived in .the colony bv the ship Lady Kgidia. For over 20 'years ho managed various stations, chief among which' were Luxiuoro (in Canterburv) Allendale, Rugged liidges, and Galloway! He was a justice of the peace and a prominent figure in church mallei's, and was for a long term a member of the Alexandra Borough Council. His wife, whom lie married in 187'', and who shared with him the trials of baekblock station life,' was the daughter of Captain Jamicson of Port Adelaide.
