A Chinese ccal-trimmer on heard the African Monarch, which arrived from Sydney to-diy, committed suicide on the putsaiji by hanging himself in one of tho coal bunkers. To-day a serious accident befel nn employee of the Telegraph Department named Koland .Malcolm. lie was fixing a wire ou a temporary pole at the railway wharf, ami when he was at the top of the polo it suddenly gave way, precipitating Malcolm haaiily to the wharf. Dr Aubin discovered that Malcolm's right arm was broken just below the elbow, while other sevcro injuries were sustained. At tho inquest to-day into the death of William Amos, a Wellington resident, who died suddenly in Queen street yesterday, evidence was given that deceased had endeavoured to obtain accommodation at various hotels in Onelumga and tho city, but was refund in every case on Recount of his emaciated appearance. The jury, in returning a verdict of death from natural causes, added a rider that tho authorities bo requested to take action against those hotelkeepors who had refused, for insufficient reason?, to accommodate the deceased. WAXUAXUI, May 11. The body of Matthew Connor, a wellknown sctilj.-, who was drowned in the river 17 miles above Wanganui on October 16, 1907, was found floating opposite Castle Oiitf yesterday. At. the inquest to-day a vordict of accidental drowning w;;g returned. NAPIfiR, May 11. Michael Kirby, of Hastings, aged 38 years, died in the hospital while under choloform. He fell over a doorstep on Saturday, and fractured both bones ir his left leg. Ho was brought into Napier for treatment. Brs W. Moore and Hrett administered the chloroform, and while under the influence of the antithetic the patient collapsed, and, despite the efforts of the doctors, failed to rally. The deceased leaves a widow and four children. CHRISTf'-aUKOH, May 11. An inquest was held this- afternoon on (lie body of the man Tttrlcy, who was found lying on the road outside the Strathmore Hospital ou Friday afternoon, suffering from injuries to his head, and who died in the Christchuroh Hospital yesterday. Investigations have shown tliat Turley fell from a trap. The jury returned a verdict that deceased met his death through injuries received by a fall from a trap while in a slate of intoxication. ASHHUBTOX, May 11, At the adjourned inquest to-day on the body of A. 11. Penny, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the Somerset ijotel on the Till in.st., the jury, after receiving tho report of the Government analyst, relumed a verdict that deceased had. committed suicide by taking oxalic acid while temporarily insane.
An old-age- pensioner named Donald Nicholson was lomid dead in bed in his Iml at lloeky Point, Cromwell, on Sunday. Death is supposed lo bo due to natural KIHSBS. A man named Jolm Holmes, aged 26 years, met with an accident, at (.he tonguo wharl yesterday about 8 p.m., a bag of grain falling upon him, and causing injuries which necessitated his removal to tho hospital. An examination showed that the injuries are. not of a serious nature. Holmes, who is a married man, residing at Regent street, South Duncdin, is in the employment of Keast and Co. A man named James M'fitiffog was received into tho Duncdin Hospital yesterday suffering; from'a fractured leg. He was riding a horse over a. swamp near d'is residence ar Knka, in the Clutha district, wlie.ii the ho.i*p stumbled, and he fell off. The animal lashed out with his heels, and kicked M'titilTog on'the leg, causing a nasty fracture.
