M'Gowan, Minister o( Mincw, stated that he had heard nothing of the reported desire lo have certain Nativo lands in the vicinity of Alaiuigatauturi (near Cambridgo) opwioll as a goldlielij. Everything, he said, was in readiness for (lie opening of the Urewera country to |.-iosikclois as eoon as the negotiations with the Native owners were completed. Speaking of his first visit to the Tairua district Just week, Mr M'Gowan stated that he. was very favourably impressed wir.li the possibilities of this' pinlion cf the goldiields as a future goldprodttemg area. In his opinion the country would well repay pxpioration on a thorough and systematic stale, and it should be heard of as a valuable gold producer before very long.
