Wo are, however, of opinion that the maiket will incline to revive after tho Now Year, ajidi all available wheat go into consumption prior to the arrival of the new crop. Wo can/ give values to-day a.t 5s 3d for prime long-berried; 5s 2d for short, berried5 and! fowl wheat as low as 6s per. bushel of GOlb (f.0.b., sacks weighed in)., _ Oats.—Business in this gTain has been veay lately, and consequently the market has quietly but surely sagged 1 down from 4s to where it is to-day. It would appear as if the high prices Tuling, now that grass is plentiful everywhere, have restricted' consumption very much. Shipments to the North Island have been very smalt recently, and now the holidays are over we expect to see an increased demand as we know stocks aro bare. Locally, stocks are bare also, and the market is consequently sensitive, especially as the few holders there are cannot sell at to-day's prices with any profit, and in many cases it means a loss. We have not heard of any quotations below 3s 3d (f.0.b,, sacks in) for B grade, at the same time that some holders would likely accept less if offered, ■while some are veiy firm in their demand, for 3s 6d. We expect to see this price reached, and the market buoyant Before the endvof this month owing to tho absurdly small quantity of oats available. Barley—There is practically none in the market, and as brewers havo sufficient stocks to see them through thero is little or no inquiry. We quote (nominally): Pnmo mailing, 5s to 6s 6d; and feed from 3s 9d to 4s 3d per bushel of 501b (f.0.b.,- sacks weighed in, net cash). Ryegrass.—Stocks on hand are light,' and already inquiry from the Norlh Island is good, likely, we think, to absorb all available stooks of old seed at present prices prior to the new coming on the market. It is a little difficult, to express an_ opinion as to how. the market will go. We judge that the season has been favourable for this crop, and consider a fair area is being Eaved and that the yield, should bo good. A great deal depends on, the weather experienced during the next two months. We quite: 30lb. Eeed, up to 5s 7d; 281b, 5s 4d; 261b, 5s 2d; and Italian from 1 5s. 6s to 6s 6d per bushel of 201b (f.0.b., sacks extra). / Cocksfoot.—Has keen inquiry as the .new crop is rather longer in coming to hand than is the case with ryegrass, at the same time buyers do not care to pay present high prices until actqady frfrced to. We cannot express an opiniom as to how the market will go when new crop comes forward. To-day's quotations are:. 181b Feed, ,75d; 17lb seed, 7Jd 'to 7Sd161b seed, 7d. Clovers.—Owing to the rise in Britain, stocks here, which we considered to be fairly heavy are well held, and are mire to move off into consumption easily, as they cost the holders .less than iue same seed can he landed for to-day. We quote: Cowgrass—colonial, 85s to 90s; imported, 80s to 85s; Alsike. from 85s to 90s, and white from 60s to 80s, while colonial, we can. give at from 85s to 90s. It is some considerable time yet beforo any new crop clovers will bo available. Butter.—All factories being fixed for the season, there is little to say with reference to this locally. Those' few factories consignwill ro doubt Bb niToctcd by tho present high prices ruling in London. while purchasers should be, up to the present at anyrate, doing well on thoir season purchases at | from 10} d 0 lOid. It would be difficult to secure any butter lor export in the Dominion to-day oxcent at a higli pride. Cheese.—ln sympathy with London,' this market is a littlo depressed, nnd value mav be given at fijd, f.ob; at the same time business would be difficult to do on account of those factories, who have not sold, havins? made arrangements for shipping on consignwent" The demand from Australia hos slackened off, and thero is rather mitoh medium size available.
