ANNUAL -MEETING.
The sixteenth annual meeting oRKo Dunedin Amateur Boating. ■ Club was hold at tho clubhouse last evening. Mr A. E. Gascoigno (president) was in tho chair, and a number of members irero 'present,
In moving tho adoption of tlio' report and balanco sheet tho Chairman said it gave him great pleasure to bo ahlo to congratulate tho club on its financial condition, which had' improved very considerably. ,Ho only -wished thoy -liad done as well in som« of tho competitions. ■ They had not boen represented at the championship regatta, which was rather disappointing. The expected crisis had arrived. Tlio Harbour Board had given thorn notico to quit. Tho committee, howovor, hoped, with tho assistance, of the members, to carry on tho club. A fresh start would have to bo made, and tho commencement would necessarily be humble. Members would have to 1» satisfied with less, accommodation than they onjoyed at present,, and thero could bo no social hall. It was a pity all the money spent on this building should bo lost, but the progress of tho city should in no way be retarded for tho benefit of an athletic ■body. They were glad tho Harbour Board vra.s making sizch extensive improvements, and if they must "go under" in eonsequcnco they must try to do so - with tho best grace possible. The club had had gonerous supporters in the past, and'world, doubtless, retain.them for the future. Tho speaker called on all members to work togothor and keep tho club going. Mr • A.. E. Hall seconded. tho motion.
Mr J. Swan said it spoko well for tho club to 6co such a good attondanco.in such a blaek hour. He had no doubt that as long a,6 they' had a. root over their heads that, thov would got on. They would liavo to faeo the " hib " 'question, : a. couple must bo got, and the price would be £60. There was 110 reason, why the club should -not continue.. Tho executive was doing all it could, and hoped to get a permanont ,sito on land, instead of on the water. All credit was duo to the captain, treasurer, and secretary for the excellent work they had done. Ho would like to seo members keen to take up duties as office-bearers. Mr Hamann waa a Ion? way better fb:ill. • an aniaton' would bo- for the position of *' secretary, but it would be advisable'that tho •' ofTico should be hold by a momber of' ,tho club for the future. ' ■ •
The. Chairman:, I would .suggest, then, that Mr Hamann becomes a membor of the club. That would .solve the diflioulty. Motion oarried unanimously.
