MEMORIAL TO THE LATE DR ROBERT LAMB.
At a recent meeting of tho Council of the Canterbury College Graduates' Association it was decided to ask the Board of Governors to allow a memorial brass to bo erected in the College Hall, to commemorate the life and work of tho late _ Dr Robert _ Lamb, and permission to do this has since been granted by the board. Dr Lamb was one of the earlier graduates of Canterbury College, and distinguished himself in his college course, passing the B.A. degree and gaining a Senior Univereity Scholarship in 1884, and tho M.A., with first class honours, in 1885. Besides thus gaining credit for his college by the position he took in the class lists, ho also took his full share in promoting the social life of the college, and endeared himself to all with whom he camo in contact. Having decided to devote himself to missionary work in the New Hebrides he proceeded in 1886 to Edinburgh University, and, in ordor to quab'fy himself for the work he had chosen, he there took full courses in medicine and divinity, and graduated in both faculties. In August, 1892, he landed at Ambrym, one of the New Hebrides islands, and commenced his mission, and, in spite of many disappointments, disasters, and hardships, he laboured on for several years until his own health" quito broke down, and he was forced to retire, During tho last few years of his life he lived in Australia, and, by exercising great care, was able to do a little medical work, and to publish two volumes, one of which —" Saints and Savages " — bears directly on his work in tho New Hebrides; but he finally succumbed in June of this year to the disease contracted while labouring among the natives. The Council of the Graduates' Association feels sure that all; who knew of Dr Lamb and his work will approve of its action in placing in the College Hall a permanent record of his life of noble eclf-sacrifico. Any who wish to assist may send their contributions to the lion, treasurer (Mr R. M. Laing, Boys' High School, Chrietchurehl, or to the Rev, Dr Waddoll, of Dunedin. Large subscriptions aro not required, but the council would like io see the movement shared in by a large number of the fellowgraduates and friends of Dr Lamb. It ia proposed later on to have the memorial brass unveiled in some public manner.
