(Psr Unitep Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 17. The Stock Exchange has received a cable from Mr Turner (chairman of directors of the Talisman Gold Mining Company, London) suggesting the appointment ol the High Commissioner to represent tho colonial shareholders, adding that ho could arrange with the board of directors 1o get the commission reduced by one-half. A telegram from the Wellington Committee objected to the proposal. A resolution was carried' approving of the proposals by the chairman of directors. HESSEY'S GOLD DREDGING COM.PANY. The following is the directors' annual report of the Hcssoy's Gold Dredging Company, to be submitted to the shareholders at the annual meeting, to be held on the 30th inst.: " The amount of gold won during the year was sG3oz Gdwt 21gr, yielding £2220 3s sd. This amount baroly covered expenses, the debit fo profit and loss account standing ait £197 4s 10(1, being an increase of £151 lis Gd tor tho 12 months.. It will, however,: be pleasing iv shareholders to note that the actual working expenses have been reduced to a minimum, the amount being £2236 15s 8(1, as against £2897 6s 8d for the preceding year. The olaini boundaries are again being amended, and the dTodgo is now heading for the upper end of the claim, whioh shareholders will remember had to be temporarily abandoned about three years ago owing to (lie great quantity of silt which came, down the Winding Creek from the sluicing, operations going on higher up in the watershed of the creek. Although a heavy flood in the creek may oven yet troublo dredging operations, the directors do not consider that any serious difficult; will arise in connection l with travelling silt, and as the dredge left ground near the top end of the claim yielding over •lOoz per week, it is expected that the company will very shortly be again a dividend-paying one. Towards the end of last year Mr Geo. PetligTew accepted, an appointment on the West Coast, and resigned his position as dredgemnstcr to this company. Mr Thomas Armstrong was appointed to fill the vacancy, and he still continues in that position. Tho director to retire in accordance with the articles of association is Mr John Hessey, and tho auditor (Mr James Brown) also retires, but, both being eligible, offer themselves for re-election."
