EFFECT OF PROPOSED CHANGES,

' proposed now scale in respect of l&rid other than business premises was'presented to Parliament to-day. Property of the unimproved va.lue of £40,000, which pays £145 under tho present scale, would pay '.'\ £200 under tho proposed new rate. On a £50,000 property tho payment would bo : ; ! increased from £208 to £313. on a £100,000 property from £677 to £1250, whilst the - owners of an cetalc vajucd at £.150.000 would have taxation exactly doubled—viz., from £1407 to £2814. A property'valued at £200*000 would have its impost increased r from £2396 to £5000. A note to the re- ■■[ turn points out that in all cases whore the; land includes business premises the amount of graduated la.nd tax will bo ret duced by the exclusion of the unimproved value of such premises from the 25 per, ; : cent, increase.
