Tim steamer Navua, which arrived from the Islands yesterday, brought news of a shipping catastrophe wliioli it was feared had occurred in the Tonfrnn group. The trading schooner Scharlotte, owned' and sailed by Captain A. \V. Gordon Mack-ay. formerly known us I lie "Copra Kin,?," left Tonga on July 12 for Niuafoon, a twodays' journey, and has not been heard of since, although she was three weeks nl sea when the Navua visited the group. The •Scharlotte had 60 natives on board for Niuafoon, and it is believed all were lest, including the captain, as no tidings of cithci boat or her living freight had been received' up to the time the Navua left for Auckland six days ago.
