OTAGO ROWING CLUB.
The following report will be presented to members of the Otago Bowing Club at the annual meeting:— . In submitting tho thirty-fourth annual report and balance sheet, your committer is pleased to be able to congratulate the club on tho oonclu?ion of o, successful working year. During the year 51 new members were elected, of whom five were honorary and 46 active members. Tho membership roll now stands at 101 active, 35 honorary, and fivo life members, which may be considered very satisfactory. As usual, oil club races were successfully rowed off. The novice races, owing to the large influx of new members, wero specially well supported. The club was represented at Port Chalmers, Little River, Invercargill. Ravensbourne, and Waihola regattas. Tho success of three of t3ie regattas was largely interfered with by adverse weather conditions, feveral events on the Port Chalmers programme for 26th December beiilg rowed at a later date; portion of the Waihola programme was abandoned, while tho club representatives were required to undertake two journeys to Invercargill to compete there. Notwithstanding these un•favoiuable circumstances the c'.ub record lor tho season is as follows: Eight firsts, tlirce seconds; prize money, £26. Winners o{ Maidon Cup, and runners-up for Junior and Senior Cups and premiership. The interclub novice race was held early in the season, when the Dunedin Anwteur Boating Club proved victorious. During tho year a new racing' convertible double-sculler was purshased from Jlr 6. Norton, of Wellington, and a best-and-bost four from Messrs Greenland and Son, of Melbourne, and both boats appear to be well suited to local waters. Ilia plan* Ken«fi»)ly is in a tHtfeloctay
condition, thanks largely to th^ eilr « bestowed by our caretaker, Mr La£; but we would recommend the incoming mimittee to consider the advisability of n<'' n 6 a stump sculler and a small plfSure boa± tq the present fleet. The commit)® would also direct tho attention of mcmbe/ to the necessity of exercising extreme ci® handling the plant, especially in roug'^ ea tber,_when accidents are most likely to/ccur. It- is nob intended that the cost of leakages, the result of carelessness, shall/® home by the club. Mr L. R. ■\Vilson'/P te! "dcnt of the club, who is at prosont.n » visit to England, was presented b'oro departure by members with a sma.' memento of tho esteem in which he i/held. Mr Wilson's safe return mil be w>comed by tho club. Mt J. M'Grath is 4* at present visiting England, and expects ■> return here for next season's rowing. Opting day was marked by particularly fine wither. Tho lady friends of the 1 club were etert&ined at afternoon tea on this occasiof' and on a subsequent Ladies' Day, whioh«s arranged in February last, when, favouro' with fine weather, another enjoyable afemoon. was aporit. By special canvass of numbers, and by organising a smoko social, th sumi of £20 was raised towards tho cost if tho best-smd-bsst four. The finances of tb 1 club are now in a Bound condition, and wlh careful attention from subsequent commjtees should remain so. Tho following is & list of the winning crews:— !
