EDUCATION STATISTICS.
Tho quafterlv returns of attendance for tno period ondcd Juno 30, 1906, which havo been compiled by the secretary of the Otago Education Board, show that thcro ■u-cro 228 schools in operation in this district, employing 205 males and 319 femalo ■teachere. Tho number of pupils on tho rolls at the beginning of the quarter was 39,264, and at the end of the quarter 19,304, comprising 9960 hoys and 9344 girls. The nverago attendance was 6974 hoys and 8304 Eirls.-making a total of 17,278, being 57 less than the total for the previous quarter, and 262 less than that for tho June quarter of 1905. ' Tho number of pupils admitted during the quarter wa5.623 boys and 623 "iris;— total, 1251. Tho averages of the city and suburban schools for the quarter were:—Kaikorai, 653; Albany Street, 628; Forbury, 586; (Icorgo Street, 548; ■Caversham, 525; High Street, 509; Arthur Street, ~S01; Union Street, 499; North-fet Vallev. 4V2; Mac andrcw Road, 423; Normal, 405; Morningten, 400; Kensington. 245; Musselburgh. 165; Jtavciislwurno. 163; Anderson's I!ay, 118; SI. Clair, 115; Wakari, 85; Loith' valley, 48.
