OAMARU NEWS NOTES.

(Fbou Otjr Own* Correspondent.) OAMARU, July 23. The death of Mrs Don, the wife of Dr Don, of the Waitaki Hoys' Hidi School, has called forth general expressions of regret and of esteem for the deceased lady. During the nine years and a-half of her residence in Oamaru she endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact, while by the boarders in the school she was regarded with much affection. Her kind and untiring interest in every hoy did much to gain tho confidence of parents outside the district, and was a considerable factor in the rapid increase in the number of boarders. For two years she had suffered from a painful malady, which culminated in her death on Sunday, General sympathy for Dr Don is expressed in Oamaru.

A resident of. Oamaru, who arrived in. town by the Timaru train this morning, was found by the police to have in hi? possession fivo bottles of whisky, one bottle of beer, and a gallon of lwer not properly marked. He was apprehended, and a. charge of a breach of flic Licensing Act Ims been laid.

The railway employees at Oamaru have expressed their approval of Mr Ronayne's proposal to subscribe to a fund for a memorial to the late Mr Rcddou. and a committee has been formed to take the necessary steps to co-operate.
