GOLDEN WEDDING.

The golden wedding of Mr anil Mrs Alfred WiMnnson wag celebrated at their residence, Eden street, last Saturday afternoon, when a very pleasant gathering took place in honour of the occasion. The celebration had been originally projected on a scale 11181 would have enabled a host of old friends to participate personally in tho function, but the illness of Mrs Wilkinson rendered this impracticable, and. with the exception of tho s?cv. llr and Ifrs Laycock, only the members of the family were present. Mr Charles Wilkinson and tho other speakers, including Mr Laycock, paid a warm tribute to the strenuous pioneering lite of the recipients, marked by such faithful performance of parental duties that their i chMrden could now rise up and call them j blessed. Particular reference was made to the many years of active philanthropic work of Mrs Wilkinson, when hei skill in nursing and wisdom in counsel were at tile disposal j of everyone in need, night and day. Both Mr and Mrs Wilkinson responded in short speeches, the keynote of which was thank- ! fulness to God for what thoir eyes had wn and their ears heard that day. 'Mr and Mrs Wilkinson are in their seventieth year, and retain all their faculties unimpaired. arrived in Dunedin in February. 1563. and in rmmy ways have partic-inated in the development of the province. Their family | of 10—eight sons and two daughtere—are all i alive, and well-known in Otago, whi'e 17 ' grandchildren are included in tho family circle.
