; Owing lo i)l-heallh, l+i Thomas Berham, A A1.1.C.E., the water conservation engineer of tho Minos Department for the past eight years, has_ been retired from tho public service. During his connection with the department Mr Perham designed tho Eweburn dam, Otago, and bo roported on various irrigation &chcme3 in Otago, and on tlio domestio supply of water for several of the principal mining townships in thb HauraUi goldfields. A very pleasing ceremony took place at Iho Planuses of Slessrs Laid! aw and Gray (Limited). Rattray street, when Mr Jl'lver, on behalf of the employees, presented Mr L. Lumsden with a beautiful tea set on the occasion ot his appro-selling marriage. Mr Lumsdcn suitably responded,
