Tuesday, September 13. (Before Jlr C. C. Graham, S.M.) Drunkenness—A first offender was fined 63 or 24 hours' imprisonment for this offence.— liorris Mannheim, v;ho had been previously convictcd, was fined 10s, or in default 46 hours' imprisonment.

li'urious Driving. —C. A. Burnett was charged with driving round the corner of a public street at other than a walking pace.— Mr C. E. Slatham appeared for the defendant, who pleaded " Not guilty."—Sub-inspector Green stated that the defendant was driving a buggy along Princes street and turned round tho corner at Battray street at a fast trot, several persons nairowly escaping injury.— Sir Statham said that defendant had slowed . down nl the corner, but the horse, being ! fresh, took him unawares and started round tho comer at a smart pace.—Defendant was fined 10s, with 7s c«3ts. Jndigent Children. —An order was made for the committal of Thomas Newlands, a child ; threo months of age, to tho Caversham Indus- ' trial School, to be brought up in the Presby- • terian form of religion. Rose Al'Guire, a j child 11 years old, whose father wa3 a widower, was brought before tho court as' being an uncontrollable child.—lt was stated that the

j child had been in tho South Duijedin Orphanage, fioni which she liad run away, ; and also that sho had several times slept out of doois at night.—An order was made for her committal to the St. Vincent de Paul Orphanage, io he brought up in tho Koman, Catholic religion. Application for a Separation Order.—Mary Ann Holbrook applied for an order for separation from her husband, 'Austin William Holbrook.—Mr Gallaway appeared for the applicant, and Mr Hanlon (instructed by Mr MosTe) , for tho. defendant.—Mr Gallawjy stated that ■ this was an application for a summary separaj tiou on the ground that the defendant had for the last two years wilfully neglected to I provide maintenance for his wifd ami children.
