Speaking at Pctono last night, the Premier, in presenting the charter to the loca! bianch of tho Liberal and Labour Federation, warned bin party of thb necessity for organisation. The most determined fight that had over taken place would be. seen at the next election, and he wanted them to be fully prepared, and to keep tiro Liberal flag flying. Ho spoke at some lougth on the land question. The cry for freehold was, ho said, a cover lor nothing less than the upsetting of the Land for Settlement Act. Adverting to railway nutters, he. said that the time was not far distant when they would cease to import any locomotives for tlu colony. He alluded tj the extravagance of education and other local boards, and commented on the fact' that the Opposition lost no chance in getting: seats on thesa hoards, which, he contended, was net in order to give the country tlio benefit of their services, but to make impossible demands on tho Government for money, and then throw tire blame on the Government for refusing them. He claimed that 95 per cent, of tJio members of county councils were opposed to the Government. At the end of the proceedings a, motion expressing unabated confidence in tlio Premier wa3 carried by acclamation.
