TESTIMONIAL TO DR WILLIAM BROWN.

A meeting of the sub-committee deputed to make inquiries regarding the testimonial which the citizens of D'unedin propose to present to Dr Vm. Brown on tho occasion of his departure from Dunedin was held in the Mayor's office yesterday afternoon, at which tho following gentlemen wore present:—His 'Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Hon. T. Feigns, Messrs T. Vf. Kempthorne, J, Maloney, and P. R. Sargood; also, at the request of the committee, Dr Win. Brown. His Worship the Mayor briefly outlined to Dr Brov.ii the form whscli it was suggested tho farewell should take. Dr Brown, stated that the ideas were quite satisfactory, though at the same time he would have liked if possible to have slipped awoy quietly from Dunedin; but, seeing that tlie citizens tad decided otherwise, he would prefer it to "bo. as qu'iet a tiling as possible. At this stage Dr Brown withdrew, and the committee discussed various matters in connection with tho proposed, testimonial. It was arranged that a conversazione would be held on or about Thursday, November 5, in tho Victoria Hall, at which the friends of Dr Brown would havo an -opportunity of bidding him farewell. Tho Jion. secretary was (instructed to draw up a circular intimating the form which the testimonial would take, and distributo them amongst the numerous acquaintance 1 ? and friends of the doctor. It was arranged that a meeting of the General Committee should be held on Monday next at 4 p.m. The following gentlemen's names weTe added to the committee:—Messrs A. Michie, Gr. Fenwick, and F. J. Stilling.
