THE OTAGO FOOTBALL REPRESENTATIVES.
; TO THE EDITOB. ■ SlE,—Football enthusiasts thought this year tliat they had a Selection Committee who would pick a team on the form shown by players .in the trial matches. It, therefore',; came a3 a shock to many of us when wo caw, the,-names of tho team in town on Saturday evening. It/is quite evident that tho team' was-.picked in,the minds of 4e committeo long before the trials, as one selector told a few of his;friends tho probable team about three weeks ago., This selector's opinion hae come pretty near the mark, and it appears as if he is able to twist his colleaguoa-round his little finger, and make a sort of sole selector of himself. Can anyone explain why Adams did not get in as centre three-quarter back instead of full back? Everyone. I have spoken to on tho subject admits he played a better game m the trials than Bennet. There is no doubt Adams will" make, a good full back, but in the minds of many people he should bo' in as centre three-quarter, with Casey or Jliller as full back. The three-quarter line is undoubtedly weak, and Adams is a very safe;man in that place, and would have strengthened the combination very much. Casey was full bade last year.,' and I think he should have had a show in that position this yeai. Miller has been playing good games for liis club this, season, and on his form in the trial matchee he should have been a certainty. He has been used to playing a defensive gamo all season, and critics* all admit that there'is not a full back in town who will keep his liead and save his side in the way Miller does. Could someono explain the reason the committee have for excluding a nlaycr of Miller's stamp from the team?—l am, etc., ' Weakt. Willie.
