Mr Edwin Mason, registrar of friendly ' societies, who died Fuddan'.y on his way • home last night, was born in Cornwall, and ! finished his education at Christ' College;' Cambridge, where he took his B.A. degree : in 1860. For some, years before he came to i New Zealand he was a clergyman of the ! Church of England, and wns stationed in : one of the suburbs of Manchester. Resign- j ing his living with the object of improving ; his health in ihc southern hemisphere, he . came out to Australia about 25 years ago i In 1881 ho received an appointment in the i New Zealand RoKistrar-ncnoral's Depart- ! mont, which he 1-cld until 1885, when he was' selected to become registrar and actuary ; of friendly societies. He was an excellent ; mathematician, and his knowledge of figures proved invaluable to him in discharging bi-s ■ actuarial duties. For soma months past.
