NORTH-EAST VALLEY AND ITS RETURNED TROOPERS.

« A meeting of those favourable to entertaining returning troopers belonging to tha Norlh-East Valley district was held in the North-bast V alloy Town Hall last evening. Mr H. Duncan (Mayor of the borough) occupied tho chair, and tho following gentlemen ivcre also present:—Messrs T. Short, W. Anderson. W. Brittendcn, \V. Doyle J Jinrnett, R. V. Johnston, and D.'T. Wilson! Apologios for absence were received from Messrs J. Evans, I!. Steel, and W. Millier. After a short discussion it was dccidcd to givo a social oil July 11 to the returned troopers from tho Valley district who had not' already received a recoption, and a committee was formed, consisting of all thoso present, with tho addition of Messrs D.; H. Murray, Evans, Steel, and Millier, to make tho necessary arrangomonts. Mr Duncan was appointed permanent chairman, and -Messrs W. Anderson and 'W. Brittcnden secretary and treasurer respectively; while it was decided that tho eommittco should have power to add to their number. So far as is known at present there aro eight troopers in whoso honour the social will bo given, all of them belonging to tho Sixth and Sevonth Contingent? except two (one from tho Fourth and 'i'roopor Umbers, of tho Scottish Horse). During tho discussion it was mentioned that thero was about £12 left over from tho amount collected in connection with the previous social, and it was thought that this, along with the pro-' ccor|s from the sale of tickets, would prove shlßcient_without calling on tho residents for subscriptions. It is intended to present each of tho guests with a modal in commemoration of his services at tho front. It waR decided that tho ccst of the medals should not Mceetl 35s each, and tho chairman, secretary, and treasurer were' appointed a eommittco to select a design as near as possible to that of the souvenirs given to tho other troopers. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Joseph Eli White asking for ilio use of tho flags which lie had kindly lent on a previous occasion.
