MKETIxr; AT XORTH-KAST A'ALLKY. A meeting was held at the Town Hall, Xorih-Kast Valley, last evening to make arrangements for entertaining returning troopers belonging to the district. There were about 30 persons, among them a number of ladies. Mr Anderson, Mayor of the Borough who was voted io the chair, explained i hat at a preliminary meeting held on Saturday evening it was decided that the welcome function should take the form of a social, followed by a dance, and that an endeavour he made to uresent to each trooper a medal, which would no doubt be treasured as a memento of the occasion. Canvassers were appointed to obtain the necoss'arv funds and they had already hud satisfactory success, and expected to get sufiicicnt to' carry out the full programme propored. The Xortb-Kast Valley Band luitl volunteered its services to play the hoopers to ihe hall, and contribute to the evenina's programmeand the Buroiij.li Council offered the free use of the hall for the function and the preliminary meetings. The present meeting was for the purpose of settling all details, and he now invited suggestion!.. The first .matter discussed was the date ol Iho proposed function, and it was eventually decided to fix on the. evening of inday. 19th inst.

The Chairman announced Ihd those to be entertained would number al-mil a iloicn. and that the intention was to present a souvenir to each. He invited suggestions as to the most suitable articles, and it wns decided to procure gold pendants, suitably inscribed.

OTDT.R PREPARATIONS. The Hillside employees are determined to give their representative men iu the returnins contingents-Sergeant Hloek ami Corporal Mathie-a hearty welcome. If possible they will escort the men- to their respective home?, a carriage having been provided for the purpose. Corporal Mathie was fully equipped by (he workshops'employees, but had, of course, to leave his horse Hillside which carried him through the campaign iii South Africa. The cost of Sergeant Black's equipment was divided between the local Telegraph Office anil Hillside.
