THE NUGGET GOLD DREDGING COMPANY (LIMITED). Dredging operations on Iho Nugget claim were, as is generally known, suspended on the 22nd ult. pending a referenco to a meeting of shareholders, to be held to-morrow evening, o£ the question whether the ladder should bo lengthened sufficiently to bottom the ground (which has been proved by boring to go as deep ns 45ft), or whether the company should amalgamate with one of several other companies holding claims on the same river whose directors have expressed their desire to negotiate with that object in view. The directors of the Nugget Company requested Mr Hughes, who was dredgemaster for some time previous to suspension, to give his opinion on the claim, and the following is his report:— Glecary, December 22, 1900. Mr E. Trythall, secretary Nugget Gold Dredging Company. Sir,—l have tho honour to report as follows re Nugget Company's claim at Glenary, of which I have been dredgemaster for the past three months. The claim I consider a very good one were a suitable dredge placed upon it; one capable of dredging to a depth of 45ft so as to reach the strata of gold-bearing wash now known to exist over the greater portion of the claim, the present dredge, through tho shortness of the ladder, being quite inadequate for the purpose. During my term of management on the present dredge I only touched bottom for 21 hours, and during that short period I obtained 4Joz of gold of a splendid sample. The claim is one well suited for dredging, every part of it being workable, and the stuff is of tho best description for shifting, there being very littlo cfoy to interfere with the operations, I

I have therefore the greatest confidence and 1 pleasure in stating tliiil I consider tliu property a moat valuable one wore a dreuge suitable forUhc ground placed upon it, and, if ao, I should bo most happy, to again resume the management.—l am, etc., Edward Hughes.
