At.the Police Court to-day Anthony Norman, a tobacconist, was fined £3 and costs for disposing of cigarettes by means of a poker machine, which was confiscated.

Sapper Head's condition is marked by a slight improvement. At times he shows brief gleams of returning consciousness, and is- improving a good deal in appearance. A movement is being made by the leading prohibitionists with a view to presenting Sir Robert Stout with a testimonial in recognition of his past services in the cause of temperance.
