DUNEDIN CYCLING CLUB.

The following, report, will be submitted at the annual meeting of the-Dunedin-Cycling Club; to be held in .the club rooms on Wednesday, 30th inst.:— . ■■'■■ .■ ;•:'■■ . . ;, .

Your committee have pleasure in laying .before you their annual report and balance sheet for the year ending-July 31, 1899. The balance sheet shows a.credit balance of £200 13s 2d, ancl the asset's of,the;club now .stand at £435 12k 2d. a. result which'your committee have everyReason to be satisfied[with. The roll now standsat 35&, ofiwhibh 32G are,active members,-the' rest being honorary,,.country,, and life members. ; During the summer club runs were held; on Saturday afternoons', and, although gold medals were offered as an inducement for members to attend these- outings, the musters were never very large.- Four members succeeded iv gaining the necessary ; number of points which, entitle them to medals—namely: Messrs W. Cduston, H. Lamb, J. Pietersen; and L. "Wtusaw, each gaining the rnaxinium number ot points—sl. Members indulged in a great deal of touring during the year, and-your commit-, tee feel satisfied that the reputation of the club , as a. touring club has been fully maintained.' , The standard attained by the racing members— both amateur and cash—still keeps .high: Special inducement was offered to amateur riders,* and every effort made to strengthen this section, with, the result that the club, now pSssesaes more amateur riders than any other club in the colony. A Club Handicap Eace for young riders was held during the summer, and attracted a large field, the event being won by Mr A. Pirie.: The annual fixture for the Road Race took place on the 25th April, but was this year limited to £0 miles, and wa3 yon by Mr W". J.-Will,;with .Mr A. Ealston second, and Mr N. Ealston third. Mr TV. B. 801 l succeeded in reducing the Australasian road record for 50 miles, covering the distance from Eiccarton to Milton arid back in the remarkable time of,2hr Bmin 49sec. This time still continues a Now Zealand- record: The nineteenth annual sports meeting took place on February 11, 1899, but owing to the large amount. o£ prize money offered— £U9 altogether—and tho unfavourable weather, the profits amounted: to ■ only 14s Id. Tho meeting otherwise was : a great success, and the Sports Committee are, to be congratulated on the success of their labours. The amount of prize money; offered by tho club at the annual sports meeting is: the subject of a motion to be discussed at the, annual meeting. ' During the year the club, removed from its old premises in High street to large and commodious.rooms in the Colonial' Bank Buildings. A largo sum of uj_6ney..was expended in fitting up and furnishing,,these ; rooms, and the club is to be congratulated m having premises second to none in the colony, and'supplied \vith Ull the latest periodicals and magazines.of the day. A musical evening was. held at the opening of the new rooms, and during the year-card and billiard tournaments have been held, all being well patronised. Tho committee desire to thank the following donors of prizes and money:—Dr Fulton, Dr Barnett, Mr W. Melville, Caledonian Society, Anglo-New Zealand Cycle Compauy, Mr T. Long, Mr C. H. Arndt, and-Mr C. Speight., Also to thank the president, Dr Fulton, and the club's delegate, Mr F: M'Kechnie, for services rendered during the season, and the press-. for prominence given to cycling makers gentrally.'. - ■' . ■,--,
