FOOTBALL.
SOUTHLAND v. OTAGO.
The third of this year's in.terprovincial football matches in-Dunedin will be played on the Caledonian ground "this, afternoon, when the eighteenth'match between Southland and Otago will be tho attraction. As tho Southlanders have won the last five matches, the Otago team has a somewhat large score to pay off to its opponents, and. the general expectation is that the southerners' series of victories will on this occasion be interrupted, lho Southland team is lighter in the forward di-vision-than'it has been for some years, but its backs are a clever lot, who are distinctly skilful in the style of play in wluci Otap backs are most efficient. Unfortunately, the visitors will be weakened by the absence ot Murphy, their centre throe-quarterback, who was injured in the match between Canterbury and Southland, his place to-day bemjr filled by Maley. As there is every appearance ol beautiful weather, and the promise of a .fist sratne, a large attendance is looked for Air Hanson willact as touch judge for Southland.
THE TABANAKT TRAM. The secretary of the O.K.F.U. received a, telegram from" New Plymouth yesterday advisirnr that the Tarannki team had left direc for Dunediu. The names of tho team have not yet been supplied.to us, and it is at present doubtful as to when they will reach Duneclin, but presumably it will bo on Monday or Tuesday niglft.
