MEETINGS AND ENTERTAINMENTS.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Hand .and., Heart Lodge, No. 4358, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held in the Stuart street Hall on Tuesday evening. N.Ci. Bro. E. O. Nees presided. Correspondence was read and dealt with. The N.G. declared the special summoned meeting for the revision of lodge rules opened. After proceeding with the business until a late hour the meeting adjourned for a month. Receipts £37 5s 2d.

At the Caverslmm Presbyterian Literary Society on Monday evening an interesting and instructive lecture entitled " Pompeii and Vesuvius," was delivered by the Rev. W. Scorgie, of Mornington. An excellent service of limelight views illustrated the subject, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the lecturer.

At the Russell street Mission Hail the Kov. A. Don, of the China mission, gave a hvntorn exhibition on Wednesday night to an interested audience. Nearly 100 coloured photographs of charming views, strange laces, and the wonderful sights on the Pacific and Pacific Coast, including Samoa, Hawaii, Japan, China, etc., were thrown upon the screen. Mr Don, who had recently visited all these places, gave a clear description of what he had seen. The lecturer intimated that he yet had a large number of Chinese and Japanese views to show, a«d he hoped to coruc again to Russell street when his other cngajcnients permitted.
