THE WEATHER.

A shower of snow about 8 a.m. yesterday, another shortly after midday, and a third about 5 o'clock kept up the supply thoughout the day on all but the main streets of the city. Trampled down by the traffic, the sharp frost of last night converted t,his into ice, and pedestrians found it not only difficult, but very dangerous, to move about during the evening.

Our special commissioner wired us from Blacks that for the last week the snow fall in Central Otago has been the heaviest kHown for many years. There were 2in at the railway station, 6in three miles out; at Geraldine Bin, and at Fairlie Creek lft. The fall ceased and the clouds broke up at 9 a.m. yesterday. At Christchurch there was a considerable fall of snow in the morning, and at intervals throughout the day, but it did not lie long in the city. Snow fell thickly there last evening.
