TOTE BETTING.

WELLINGTON, April 12.
Elias Gaudin was fined £15 and costs for tote betting: An indemnity certificate was asked for on behalf of the police officers who betted with 'the men in order to obtain evidence, but Mr Kennjj, S.M., said the indemnity clai^e in the [act only' referred to offences connected, with gaining houses, and declined to give a certificate. With regard to the' suggestion by Mr Wilford, counsel for the defence, that he should give some expression of opinion on the act itself, lf_ considered that- wonld be improper and injudicious. Mi- Wilford stated that he had drawn'informations against Detective Broberg and 'Probationary Constables Kidd and Maearthy for conspiring to commit a crime, and. asked the court to order their arrest. Mr.Kenny refused, as they were only subordinates, but anyone could lay an information. Mr Wilford said this would be done. .-■..-■
