THE GOVERNOR'S TOUR.

Lord Ranfurly was accorded a most hearty and enthusiastic reception to Gisbcrnc. On the arrival of the Tutanekai shortly afier 5 o'clock last evening a crowd of soina tlirinsimds of pi'oplclined the wharf, and Hie Governor was received with respect. Tliis morning the official welcome took place, his Excellency being presented with an address of welcome. Replying. Lord IJanfmly .said: "It i.s a matter of history tlic.t in this locality Captain Cook first trod the shores of New Zealand, and added by his discovery one of the first possessions of onr British Empire. Your exports of wool and mutton testify to the fact that the name (Poverty Bay) given by thai, great explorer was, to say the least, inappropriate. I trust that the further development of this district may continue on as ajnjilu a scale as it lias during the past 10 years." The Governor was then driven into the country, and was entertained at a garden party at Mr Percival' Barkers in the afternoon, ■ and lit <i banquet in Hie Theatre Royal in the evening.
