CITY COUNCIL RERORTS.

The following isa summary of the.report* to be submitted at to-night's meetu^ of tfcitf City Council: —

The General Committee report with reference to by-law No. 6, which has not yet received the assent of the Governor-in-Council, that a letter has been received from the Colonial - Secretary thereon, stating that a bill is now before Parliament to regulate the slaughtering of stock and the inspection of meat. The committee have forwarded a copy of the correspondence on the matter to the Minister for Agriculture, and solicited his assistance in haying the by-law assented to. A proposal submitted by Messrs John Reid and Sons to be allowed to retain, after making ' substantial improve^ inents, the two shops of wood on part of sections 15 and 16, block V, fronting Walker street, and to clear off the wholo of the wooden, houses in the rear, as requested by the council, has been agreed to. During the past , fortnight 416 cattle, 4377 sheep, 43 piga, and nine calves have been slaughtered at the abattoirs, of which four cuttle, 13 sheep, one pig, and two calves have beon condemned. The Reserves Committee report that Mrs Dorothea Boot's tender for a 21 years' building lease of allotment 51, subdivision of- sec^ tions 3 and 4, block VI, Town District, at the rental of £2 10s pet'annum has been accepted. The ■ committee report, with thanks, vfche receipt of the following donations:—Mr W. Bull, flower seeds; Mr R. Ewing, lewt barbed wire and 4lb of staples, the latter being for one of the Town Belt enclosures. The Finance Committee report having passed the following' amounts for payment:—Municipal account, £1342 3s sd; water account, £190 15s 7d; gas account, £1053 19s; and public abattoir account, £385; total—£2B9o 18s. . The Water Committee recommend that the filling of the vacancies in the water race staff be postponed for a few weeks to see the result of the present arrangement. That an analysis of the water from each source of supply be obtained, and that a hut belonging to Mr W; D. Havard on No. 3 section of the water-race bo taken over at the price of £6.
