MEETINGS AND ENTERTAINMENTS.
The third of the winter concerts in aid of the Macandrew road gymnasium fund was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday, the room being full to the doors. The concert was a complete success in every respect. Songs were given by Mrs Christie, Miss Palmer, Miss Sheparcl.' Messrs James Jago and W. Shepherd, a duet by the Misses Shepard, and comic items by Mr J. Swan and Mr J. Craig. Miss Diuk contributed a violin solo, Mr J. Parker a cornet solo, and Mr C. Dick a flute solo. Recitations were given by Mr Todd and Mr T. Gallagher. A feature of the evening was the playing ot the Wesley orchestra, under the conductorsh'ip ■>£ isr ttJ;^ ?• The a-ocompanists were the Misses MCarthy, Palmer, Drum, and Hogg. Air B. C. Lowry, who occupied the chair, warmly thanked the performers and the aucuence on behalf of the committee for the success of tho concert. • At the fortnightly meeting of the Star of freedom Lodge, 1.0. G.T., Bro. E. Wilkinson, Ul., presiding, harmony was contributed by bis. Dewhirst, Bros. Handle, Parke, Scoullar, and Wilkinson (songs), Sis. Gemmill and Bro. Bwrell (recitations), and Bro. Lindsay (reading). Bro. Birrell (uope !of Dunedin), responded for the visitors. . _■ At the last meeting of the Hope of Dunedin Lodge, 1.0. G.T. (the Chief Tempiai presiding the visitors included tlie D.D: Bro. M'Kinley and- the P.D.D. Bro. Parkinson. Three prizes were announced as having been offered for first, second, and third prizes open to sisters of the lodge. The committee in charge of the sale of work announced that it was intended to' offer prizes for the various events open to ail sisters of the order. An address was given by I!ro. Parkinson, and songs were contributed by Sisters Parker and Essex and Bros. M'Kinley and G. W. Sandeman, a duet by Bro. and Sis. Austin, and a pianoforte solo by Bro. Do Laiitour. Bros. Parkinson (Star of Freedom), D. M'Laren (Star of Eoslyn), M'Kinley (Lily of ; the Valley), M'lntyre (Pioneer), Six (Alliance) . responded for the visitors. Bro. Hampton re--1 ported re the visit to Mosgicl, and Bro. Hegarty ; re the institution of a now lodge opened last j week at Portobello, which bids fair to be a siiccess. » I At the fortnightly meeting of the Court Pr'Vlc j of Dunedin, A.0.F., D.C.R. Bro. R. B. Ini gram, with his executive, paid an official visit. | It was decided to pay an official vis'fto Couit Pride of Roslyn (women's court) af their next meeting. One candidate' was initiated, making the present membership 256, 16 new members having been initiated during the present year. _At a meeting of the Labour Day Committee, the amended programme, which included the I suggestions of the cycling clubs, was adooted. At the request of the Amateur Athletic Club, 220 yds and half-mile events were added. Mr M. Doudle was elected to the Sports Committee in lieu of Mr Haig (resigned). The following j gentlemen, were elected to fill the various offices i connected with the sports:—Judges—Messrs W. Berwick, Bj. Patterson and [W. Doyle. The election of handicapper, tiinei keeper, and referee was held over. ! Tho employees of Messrs Reid and Gray's Olago Implement Works celebrated their fourteenth annual reunion liy a dance in St. Paul's Schoolroom on Friday night, when a most enjoyable time was spent. A lengthy daiice programme interspersed by songß, etc., was inchijged in till the early morn, fully 69 couples being present. Messrs Flint and Hamann supplied excellent music, whilst the catering, in the hands of Mr Ler,jj, left .nothing to be desired. Messrs J. Blackie, W. . Coats, H. Grant, and J. Ross carried r.nt the duties of M.C.'s in an efficient manner, and along with the other members of the committee helped to make the evening the undoubted success that it was. At the Salvation Army Barracks last evening, Adjutant Foot gave another of his hishiyentertaining inyrioramic limelight entertainments, and despite the somewhat inclement | weather there was a -*ood attendance. The \ programme was a varied one, and was received j with every manifestation of approval. The social operations of the army, embracing all the-homes and institutions of New Zealand in j active work, were depicted, as were also a, Lon--1 don ■ fite scene, and a story of rescue work. } Solos were also rendered and beautifully illusi trated, whilst other items were " Jane Conquest," and a series of slides illustrating the dangers of the deep.
