TRADES AND LABOUR.
The.annual meeting of the Otago Typographical Association .was held in the Trade's ■ and .Labour Council's .rooms, on Saturday night. Mr J. S. Ash; president, occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. <■ -The report and balance sheet, covering the business of the latter half of the financial year, were adopted. It was shown that there was a membership of .132, of which number, however,, several were engaged in other .pursuits. An increase,of £43 I6s'4d in, the funds was given as tite result of the. halfyear's transactions, while £539 17s 2d was the total amount of tjie.credit. balance. : following were appointed office-bearers for the . ; ensuing year: —W. A. W. .Wathen, ; president; , R.. Ferguson, vige-presWent; A. Judge, treasurer; A. Walker,, secretary; S. Sanlcey and A. .Wilson, trustees; board. members,, E. G. Brown and W. Alloo.: Messrs Judge, \T. Dunn, and Ash; were l-ea'ppointed delegates t« the Workers' Political Committee. As th« funds of the association were deemed amply; sufficient to \varrant an extension of. the present rule'bearing .upon clearances, the meeting decided tosubmit.the question to a ballot of the whole of the menibers^lt was resolved to try to obtain a conference between the prp: prietors of linqtypei machines and-the typographical associations of th*e colony,at, as earlya date as possible ..with a.yiew ; t.O;airiuiguig;a scale of rates and hours.;. In addition to the vote of thanks to the retiring office-bearers, it was l'esolvsd to record the'risßociaiion's appreciation of Mr Asli'.s services ' during thY - two years he had filled tli^-6ffice: of president.A Wellington telegram states'that at a meeting of unskilled workers to consider the unemployed question, it was decided to. form a ', General Labourers'lJniqn in "Vfellingtbn. At the monthly" meeting of the Bootmakers' Union Mr J. F. Arnold wag elected a delegate.to'the Workers'' Political Committee, Mr J. Timlin to the Trades"and Labour"Council, and Mr R.^ White.a member • of ; . 'tnß Bootmakers' Federal Council,'. ' ' . . ".','.■. ■ Messrs J. F. Arnold and Mr R.'Ferguson, representing the Federated Bootmakers Union, and Mr A. M.
