AUCKLAND, August 21,

At a.mass meeting under the auspices of j the Trades and Labour Council, Mr J. Fawcus presiding, Mr Shera moved the following resolutions, which were seconded by Mr P. E. Cheal and then carried unanimously: — " (1) That this meeting of workers under the auspices of the Trades and Labour Council, is of opinion • that Parliament should authorise the construction of .the railway from Poro-o-tarao tunnel to Stratford, and would approve of the Government raising a loan for the purpose; (2) That Sir Maurice O'Sorke be requested to call a meeting of. the Auckland and Taranaki members and place before them the views of this meeting, so that joint and united action may be taken in -urging" on the Government, as a matter.of simple, justice, . the claims of Auckland and Tafanaki for the construction of this railway ; also that the first resolution be forwarded to the Government."
