AULD & CO., SOUTH DUNEDIN (Opposite Bank of New Zealand). O THE MEMBERS OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH. DIOCESE OF DUNEDIN. £1600 WANTED TO MEET GRANTS OF £1500 FOR A SEE HOUSE. In commending the above to their Fellow Churchmen, the Members of a Committee appointed for this purpose beg to, point out: I. That a See House belonging to the Diocese is a necessary part of. Diocesan equipment, and must in any case be provided at no distant date. 11. The Bishop, when in England, secured promises of help from societies at Home to the extent of £1500; all of which are conditional upon an equal amount beuig raised in this Diocese, and' £1000 _oi which is conditional upon the amount being raised during the present year. These promises are not likely to be renewed, so if not taken advantage of at once they will be almost, certainly lost to this Dio- j cese altogether. . • . 111. That the raising of an Endowment 1 und. J and the acquirement of a See House or its equivalent .were filedged.-to the.. Bishop i on his accepting the Diocese. . In the year 1873 the Diocese, recognising its responsibility; promised through1 its representatives ' the sum of £150 a .year to the Bishop as house rent. This was again acknowledged and renewed m the years 1874, 1875,. and 1877. It was, However, only partially fulfilled, and. that for a very short time. . ■ ' ■ IV. That by failure of the' above-mentioned arrangements a large sum of money has become due to the Bishop. The amount now asked for from the Diocese is only about half of the sum'due, but is not asked for as a payment to the Bishop, ■ ibut to meet the grants so that the question of the See House may be settled. V. We therefore appeal to our Fellow Churchmen to. respond generously at Ao present juncture, and either ■..*-■ 1. To send' their contributions direct to the Diocesan Treasurer, Mr C. H. Statham, Dunedin, or 2. To co-operate with the Olorgy and Church Committees in making a systematic canvass in their parishes and. districts on this behalf. ■ . OBJECTS OF THE COMPANY.—The Company is being formed to acquire.irom the present owners and work by a dredge a claim consisting of 123 acres, situated in the Croydoi district, Waimumu/Hundred. . ..■ . PROPERTY.—The property consists :.of a. licensed holding of '20 acres, held'under a license from tho Crown, 63 acres securea under an agreement for sale and purchase, Dy the yen-. dors, and also three valuable water rights (the only water in the district, and the- only water that can possibly be brought on to the field) held under a license from the Crown. Two of the water rights have already been brought in by the vendors at'considerable expense. The land is believed to be exceptionaly rich, and a great depth of wash is believed to exist all over the property—ten shafts in all have been sunk, varying in depth from 15ft to 25ft. The wash appears to carry nice gold from top to bottom. The vendors (who are old miners) estimate that the ground will yield over idwt to tne cubic yard, and ljgr will pay good dividends m dredging. The property is not four miles.from the Gore Railway Station, there is a good metal road the .whole way, and dredging material can.be carted on to any part of'the'ground. THE AURIFEROUS VALUE OF THE ADJOINING COUNTRY.—The Waimumu Dredging Company, which has recently been formed in Dunedin, has as its largest shareholders the most successftil and experienced dredging men in Otago, who personally visited and inspected the ground, and who pronounced it one of the richest dredging, grounds in New Zealand. Adjoining this property all the dredgeablo land has been taken up, and dredges will soon be at work; . This basin is situated about two miles from the Croydon property. Of the Waikaka , and Little Waikaka dredges, waich are working further to the north-east, we can only say that ever since they started operations they have paid consistently and well. The Gold Creek Dredging Company is another valuable property situated a little to the northeast of Croydon, and was successmUy floated in Gore alone, and its pontoons were floated on the 28th July; it is expected to start working in the course of a month, when very rich reIturns may be expected. In^the opinion of many old miners (who know these properties), the Croydon property is the richest m tuese Reliable and satisfactory reports as to the richness of the ground, by Mr Bobert Hay, M Inst C.E.; Mr T. W. Lillicrona, and several experienced dredgemasters, can be seen at one office of the Broker, 148 Princes street, Dun--6 AGREEMENTS.—FormaI agreements as follows have be^n entered into between the vendor* of tho claim and the secretariesi on behalf of the Company:—An agreement dated 16th. July, 1898, between John lucholson and John Dickson with A. E. Otway and G S. Otway. (2) An agreement dated 28th day of July, 1898, between Samuel Fletcher and John Nichoisoa .and John Dickaon. (3) Also the option of taking up another 50 seres of fiat land. All coats of flotation and incorporation, &c, are to be born by the company. Tho subscribers to i he Memorandum of Association will nominate the firat directora, and prppare, settle, pnd-register Articles of Association as they eor.sider desirable. A public trial will be made at any.'timo to suit investors, when as a test 1 cubic yard of wash will be rut through the cradle. Applications for share* should be made without dejay (as the share list.will close in a fnw days) to the broker, C. W.
