Onions are very scarce, £17 being offered and refused for a consignment by the Talune.' ■SOUTHLAND GRAIN MAEJCET. INVEROARG-ILL,. August 19. . Oats.—There is a decided improvement in the market, merchants realising that the stocks in Southland are not Jikely to be. more than sufficient to meet ths demand for the remainder of the season1. These are estimated to amount to 218,000 sacks, which is below the average held on previous seasons. To the North Island in the- year ending 31st March over 155,000 sack 3 were shipped, and since that date over 80,000 have gone north. Canterbury usually exports oats tp the north, but thi3 year it is estimated that 150,000 sacks have already been sent froiri the Gore district to supply Canterbury war-:'s. There has been an immense falling off in the requirements of Australia. Last year 275,000 sacks went from the Bluff. This year to the end of July only 20,000 were sent. It if calculated that no fall will take place in values, while a reasonable advance on late prices is probable. Present quotations are 2s 2d to 2s 5d (f.0.b., sacks in), according to grade. Barley is in good demand, al3o ryegrass seed of 271b to 30lb per bushel. CLUTHA STOCK SALES. Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report having held their fortnightly sale at Balclutha on Friday, 19th inst.
