NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE IN LONDON.
—* — . ; (Fbom Our Own Corbespondent.) J < LONDON, July 8. ! ] WOOL. 1 From a leading broker I learn that the wool sales have proceeded during the current week - with great spirit, and that the improvement- in j the values of merino wool noticeable at the J opening of the-series has been well maintained. ; Continental buyers have recently participated in the biddings, with the result that some further slight appreciation has taken place in ' average to good combing wools, both scoured and in the grease. Superior greaaies, however, still suffer from, the want of American support, whils the prices paid for some of the heavyconditioned New Zealand wools occasionally prove somewhat disappointing. Further, I learn that the finest growths of crossbred wool continue to occupy a preferential position, and frequently command 5 per cent, more than at the'close of the May auctions But medium and coarse-haired parcels, although they have latterly attracted a. somewhat larger and more active competition, still fall short of that level by fully 5 per cent. As compared with May1 closing rates, I have received the following latest quotations:—Super . snow whites, l& per lb dearer; snow whites and scoureds, ftd per lb dearer; fleece (washed), par to Jd per lb dearer; grease (hght-con-tioned, id per lb dearer; grease (heavy con- ■/ ditioned), par to id per lb dearer. - KEW ZEALAND MEAT. ! As to New Zealand mutton the C.C.. and D. Co. say:—"Arrivals .during the past fortnight have been heavy, but they came to comparatively bare stores, and with a fairly steady trade prices have been maintained; this week, indeed, for good weight North Island sheep there has been a tendency upwards, and higher . rates by id per lb have been made up to 3d pc , lb." ■ Heavier North Island mutton has made 2Jd per lb. Stocks that were being sold last week at 2|d per lb are apparently exhausted. Late arrivals, so far as landed, have not satisfied the inquiries for really prime mutton-, this continues, in demand, and is worth k& to 4d per lb.. Of New Zealand, lambs, 120,657 have been received. The demand has continued unabated, and last week's output was probably the heaviest of the season. Stocks being much concentrated, Friday last , saw a slight advance, ■ which was maintainedtill "Wednesday, best Canterbury's making 4§d to 4Jd per lb, Dunedins and Southlands 21d to 3d per,ft>. But the last, day or two, as the discharge of the Tekoa put a number on the market, prices have been easier, and 4|d per lb is about the top price for Canterburys, and 2£d per lb for Dunedins.and Southlands." |
